“A Parent’s Heart & God’s Heart”

These days, the perspective I think about a great deal in all things is the heart of God, which is connected to the heart of a parent! It seems that there is an attitude of the heart that goes beyond judging whether something itself is right or wrong, or beyond thoughts and feelings about whether something is pleasing to us, when it comes to various matters and situations. That is the heart of a parent. It is also the heart of God the Father, who created such a heart. If God had not known what a parent’s heart was like, He would not have created human beings to have such a heart.

As we face all things, when we look at the movements of our own hearts and come to realize, “Ah, so God also has this kind of heart!” it seems that new understanding and the strength to put it into practice arise. It seems that we come to live with greater passion, expectations, mercy, compassion, patient love, and waiting toward others and toward ourselves. From this perspective, the most fundamental way of thinking about our children may also become the overall picture of the Christian life, so I would like to divide it into two stages.

The first stage is to become a person whom we can entrust to any place with peace of mind (a sense of security and trust). Whether in practical matters or in matters of faith, it means being a person whom we can send anywhere with peace of mind, trusting that they will do their part well! Becoming such a child would be a parent’s foremost wish for peace of mind. Although the process of a child’s growth involves many stages, the primary goal is for the child to reach a point where they have a sense of security and trustworthiness.

Likewise, the fundamental goal of the various activities in church life is to grow into people whom God can send anywhere, knowing that we will naturally fulfill our roles well and live our lives according to Christian values. What am I like in God’s eyes? Or, to think about it in a more practical way, it would be good to ask what kind of person my shepherd, the mature members of the church, or my pastor sees when they look at me. Also, when you look at someone, who gives you a sense of spiritual stability and trustworthiness? What is it about that person that makes you feel that way? Why not try to follow that person’s example?

The second stage is to live a life in which one’s life blossoms (a sense of calling and a passionate life). It is a life in which a person’s inherent worth is actually put into practice. It is moving toward a stage in which one has goals and purpose in life that make one’s heart race just by thinking about them. Rather than remaining at the level of having a sense of security, it is a stage of moving toward the place one should go, built upon that foundation of security. It begins with recognizing God’s calling that only that person can fulfill, and, as one experiences that calling step by step, eventually becomes a life in which one’s calling blossoms—a life that serves as an agent of God’s blessed reign. Would you not like to break this second stage down and move forward one step at a time?
