Each House Church Should Save at Least One Soul
There have been many things that have brought me joy through visiting House Churches, and one of them was seeing a sister who was upset because the VIP she had invited did not come. I saw in her the desire to save a soul. The greatest change in our church after transitioning to a House Church model is that we have become a church that works for the Lord’s desire. The Lord’s desire is for all people to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) and to come to repentance rather than perish (2 Peter 3:9), and most of the members of our church are striving to fulfill the Lord’s desire.
House Churches gather with the salvation of souls as their core value. They identify VIPs and sincerely pray that they will attend the House Church and accept Jesus Christ. In the past, we were satisfied as long as unbelieving husbands did not oppose their wives going to church. Now, however, we pray and strive for those husbands to be saved. What we sincerely desire is for evangelism to actually take place through the House Church. Therefore, every year, at least one person in each House Church should come to accept Jesus Christ. To make this happen, three things are necessary.
First, we need to identify specific people. With this purpose in mind, the members of the House Church should gather together and each write down the name of one person they meet whom they would like to identify as a VIP. If there are five members in a House Church, they will have a list of at least five VIPs, and the members of the House Church will pray for them together. They pray individually, and they pray together when they gather. Such prayers bring about the work of salvation. When we look at those who have newly accepted Jesus Christ, there are always people who have prayed for them behind the scenes. Even if there is no visible fruit, we will still hear God’s commendation that we have been faithful.
Second, we need to have an attitude of serving and strongly declare our dependence on God. “God, please allow me to meet a prepared soul. I will serve that person with the love of the Lord.” If we have not been able to evangelize, we should consider whether the reason might be found in ourselves. Evangelism is related to salvation and therefore belongs to the sovereign work of God. God brings those who will be saved to those who are prepared. If He entrusted them to someone who is not prepared, they could be hurt rather than saved. Therefore, we must first prepare ourselves with an attitude of serving.
Third, when a promising VIP comes along, the entire House Church should focus on serving that VIP. What is important at this point is to discover the VIP’s needs and have the members of the House Church work together to meet those needs. Every year, each House Church should have at least one person come to accept Jesus Christ so that we can practically fulfill the Lord’s desire.
