목장의 존재 목적은 영혼 구원에 있습니다. 비신자들이 와서 목장을 통해 예수님 만나고 하나님의 자녀가 되게 하는 것이 목장의 존재 목적입니다. 목장을 해 보면 알지만 비 신자들이 안 오면 목장이 침체되고 나눔도 진부해지게 됩니다. 그러다 비신자가 오면 목장에 생기가 도는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그러면 어떻게 해야 목장에 비신자가 올까요? 기도해야 합니다. 기도 없이 비신자가 예수 믿는 경우는 없습니다. 비신자들은 어떤 형태로든 악한 영의 영향을 받고 있기 때문에 기도하지 않고는 그들이 예수 믿을 가능성이 별로 없습니다. 무엇보다 우리 기도를 들으시는 하나님께서 일하시기 때문에 기도해야 합니다. 이렇게 기도해야 한다는데 이의를 제기할 사람은 없을 것입니다. 문제는 누구를 위해 어떻게 기도해야 하느냐는 것입니다. 목장에 비신자가 잘 오지 않는 것은 우리 기도에 문제가 있기 때문입니다.
보통 전도해야 할 비신자 명단을 내달라 하면, 편한 사람, 가까운 사람, 안 믿는 가족들의 명단을 내놓습니다. 명단을 내놓으면 보면서 기도는 해 줄것이고, 우리 가족 친지들도 예수님 믿어야 하니 서로 좋다 생각한 것 같습니다. 비신자 명단이 없는 것보다야 낫겠지만 기왕 내려면 여기서부터 하나님의 안내를 받아야 합니다. 가까운 사람, 편한 사람 명단을 낼 때는 기도로 묻지 않고 그냥 떠오르는 대로 내놓게 되는데, 우리 주변에는 이분들보다 더 하나님이 필요한 사람들이 많습니다. 지금 하나님 아니면 삶이 힘들거나, 하나님 아니면 삶이 어려운 사람들을 찾아야 합니다. 이런 사람들은 그냥 눈에 보이지 않고 기도할 때 생각나게 됩니다. 이렇게 기도하면서 생각나는 사람을 VIP로 삼고, 기도하며 찾아가 섬겨야 합니다.
이분들은 이미 하나님께서 기본 작업을 해 놓은 분들인 경우가 많습니다. 사람들이 보통 하는 말로 하면 하나님께서 군불을 떼서 익은 고구마가 된 사람들입니다. 생고구마 같은 사람들은 아무리 우리가 접근하고 섬겨도 아직 준비되지 않았기 때문에 전혀 반응하지 않습니다. 그러다 보면 우리가 먼저 지치게 되기 때문에 VIP 기도를 포기하게 됩니다. 전도도 우리 맘대로 아무렇게나 하는 것이 아니라 하나님의 인도를 받아야 합니다. 그러기 위해서는 기도하면서 찾아야 합니다. 가족이나 친구들 이름은 내 개인기도 시간에 따로 적어 놓고 기도하고 VIP 명단은 기도하면서 하나님이 생각나게 하는 사람으로 정해야 합니다. 우리의 전도가 열매 맺기 위해서는 VIP 기도 시작 단계에서부터 달라져야 합니다.

The purpose of a house church is the salvation of souls. Its reason for existence is to help unbelievers come, meet Jesus through the house church, and become children of God. Those who have done house church ministry know that when unbelievers stop coming, the house church tends to stagnate and even the sharing becomes repetitive and dull. But when an unbeliever comes, new life and vitality return to the group. Then how can unbelievers come to the house church? We must pray. There are very few cases where unbelievers come to faith without prayer. In one way or another, unbelievers are under the influence of evil spirits, so without prayer, the possibility of them believing in Jesus is very small. Above all, we must pray because God, who hears our prayers, is the One who works. No one would disagree with the need for prayer. The real question is: for whom and how should we pray? The reason unbelievers are not coming to our house churches is because there is a problem with the way we pray.

Usually, when people are asked to submit a list of unbelievers to evangelize, they write down people who are comfortable and familiar to them—unbelieving family members, relatives, or close friends. Once the list is submitted, others will pray for them, and since we naturally want our family and relatives to believe in Jesus, it seems like a good thing for everyone. Having such a list is certainly better than having none at all. However, if we are going to make a list, we should begin by seeking God’s guidance. When we simply write down familiar or comfortable people, we usually do so without asking God in prayer, just listing whoever comes to mind. Yet around us there are many people who need God far more urgently than these. We need to seek out people whose lives are difficult without God, people who desperately need Him. Such people are not always obvious to us, but they often come to mind when we pray. These are the people we should choose as VIPs, and then prayerfully visit and serve.

In many cases, these are people in whom God has already begun His preparatory work. To use a common expression, God has already “warmed the fire underneath them,” making them like sweet potatoes that are fully baked and ready. On the other hand, people who are like raw sweet potatoes may not respond at all, no matter how much we approach or serve them, because they are not yet prepared. Eventually, we become exhausted first, and we end up giving up on praying for VIPs altogether. Evangelism is not something we do however we want according to our own will; we must follow God’s leading. That is why we must seek through prayer. The names of family members or friends should be written separately in our personal prayer time, while the VIP list should consist of the people God brings to mind through prayer. If we want our evangelism to bear fruit, the change must begin from the very first step of praying for VIPs.
