VIP에 집중하는 목장들 – 김재정 목사(『목자의 삶』김명국 편저) (2026.09.04)

이번 주 칼럼은 『목자의 삶』 (김명국 편저) p.343-344에 수록된 “VIP에 집중하는 목장들 – 김재정 목사 [2015-02-22]”에서 발췌한 것입니다.

가정교회를 시작하고 지금까지 우리 교회는 목장 출석 숫자가 주일 예배 출석 숫자보다 항상 많았습니다. 교회는 안 나와도 목장에만 나오는 VIP들이 있기 때문입니다. 목장에 VIP가 있다는 것은 그 목장이 영혼구원에 집중을 하고 있는 표시입니다. 지난주에 한 목자가 자신의 VIP 명단과 소개하는 내용을 보내 왔습니다. 그런데 무려 12가정이었습니다. 그 많은 VIP들을 품고 섬기겠다며 기도 부탁을 해왔습니다. 또 VIP 들에게만 집중을 해서 목장을 세워 보겠다는 각오를 가진 목장과 목자들도 있습니다.
사실 교회에 나오지 않는 VIP 가정들을 섬기는 것은 쉽지 않은 일입니다. 그런 섬김을 하기 위해서는 목자 가정에서 매주 집을 오픈해야 하고 목장에 적응 될 때까지 계속적으로 섬김을 해야만 합니다. 그런데 그러한 일을 기쁨으로 자원해서 섬기고 희생을 치루고자 하는 목자들이 있다는 것이 얼마나 기쁘고 감사한지 모릅니다. 죄악 되고 허물 많은 우리를 오랫동안 기다려 주시고 사랑해 주신 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 깨달을 때 비로소 이러한 섬김을 할 수가 있습니다. 이기적이고 형편없는 우리를 받아 주신 하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 없다면 다른 사람을 사랑할 수 없고 섬길 수도 없는 우리들 입니다.
이 하나님의 마음을 품은 사람들이 VIP를 찾아가고 만나주고 목장에 초대를 하고 그러다가 목장에 나오게 되어 목자와 목장 식구들의 섬김을 받습니다. 그러다가 교회에 나오게 되고 예수 영접 모임을 통해서 예수님을 만나게 됩니다. 그렇게 예수님을 믿고 목장 생활을 하면서 목자 부부의 섬김의 삶을 보고 배우면서 그들도 다른 VIP들을 찾아 섬기는 사람들이 되어집니다. 이것이 목장을 통해서 섬김의 제자들이 세워지게 되는 과정입니다. 이렇게 한 사람의 VIP가 예수님을 믿고 삶이 변화되고 섬김의 사람들로 세워지는 것이 목장을 통해 일어나는 영적 부흥이고 제자 훈련 과정 입니다.
한 사람이 변하는 과정은 기도와 사랑과 희생을 치루어야 하는 느리고 힘든 일입니다. 한 명의 VIP가 목장에 나오고, 또 목장에서 섬김을 받다가 교회에 나와서 예수님을 믿고, 또 목장에서 섬김의 제자로 세워지는 것은 시간이 걸립니다. 그래서 한 명의 VIP가 예수님을 믿고 섬김의 제자가 되기까지는 빨리 되는 특별한 예외가 있긴 하지만, 그러나 최소한 보통 3-4년 이상이 걸립니다. 그러나 한 사람의 영혼을 위해서 인생을 투자할 수 있는 사람은 인생의 행복과 축복된 길을 발견한 사람이고 하나님 앞에
설 때에 상급은 의미있는 신앙생활을 하는 사람입니다. 이러한 삶을 살고자 하는 사람들이 우리 교회에 있다는 것이 감사합니다. 이러한 삶에 헌신하는 목자와 목장들을 통해 우리 교회에 참된 영적 부흥이 일어나고 하나님이 기뻐하시는 교회로 세워지게 될 것입니다.

This week’s column is excerpted from “House Churches That Focus on VIPs — Pastor Kim Jae-jung [2015-02-22],” included on pages 343–344 of The Life of a Shepherd (compiled by Kim Myung-guk).

Since we started the house church, the number of people attending our house churches has always been greater than the number of people attending Sunday worship. This is because there are VIPs who do not come to church but only come to the house church. Having VIPs in a house church is an indication that the house church is focusing on saving souls. Last week, one shepherd sent me his list of VIPs along with an introduction to them. There were as many as twelve families. He asked for prayer, saying that he would embrace and serve all those many VIPs. There are also house churches and shepherds who are determined to build their house churches by focusing only on VIPs.

In fact, serving VIP families who do not come to church is not an easy task. In order to provide such service, the shepherd’s family must open their home every week and continue to serve them until they become accustomed to the house church. I cannot express how joyful and thankful I am that there are shepherds who willingly choose to serve in such a way with joy and are willing to make sacrifices. Only when we realize the love and grace of God, who has waited for us for a long time and loved us despite our sins and shortcomings, can we serve in this way. If we did not have the love of God, who accepted us even though we were selfish and inadequate, we would not be able to love or serve other people.

Those who have this heart of God go to find VIPs, meet with them, and invite them to the house church. Then, they begin coming to the house church and receive service from the shepherd and the house church members. Then they begin coming to church and meet Jesus through the Jesus Reception Meeting. As they believe in Jesus and live the house church life, they see and learn from the serving life of the shepherd couple, and they too become people who seek out and serve other VIPs. This is the process through which disciples who serve are raised up through the house church. When one VIP comes to believe in Jesus, has his or her life changed, and is raised up as a person who serves, this is the spiritual revival that takes place through the house church and the process of disciple training.

The process of one person changing is a slow and difficult task that requires prayer, love, and sacrifice. It takes time for one VIP to come to the house church, receive service in the house church, then come to church and believe in Jesus, and then be raised up as a disciple who serves in the house church. Therefore, although there are exceptional cases in which one VIP comes to believe in Jesus and becomes a disciple who serves quickly, normally it takes at least three to four years.

However, a person who can invest his or her life for the sake of one soul is a person who has discovered a happy and blessed path in life, and when standing before God, is a person whose reward will be meaningful because he or she has lived a meaningful life of faith. I am thankful that there are people in our church who desire to live this kind of life. Through the shepherds and house churches that are committed to this kind of life, true spiritual revival will take place in our church, and it will be established as a church that pleases God.
