13] 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “이 물을 마시는 사람은 다시 목마를 것이다.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,

14] 그러나 내가 주는 물을 마시는 사람은, 영원히 목마르지 아니할 것이다. 내가 주는 물은, 그 사람 속에서, 영생에 이르게 하는 샘물이 될 것이다.”

but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15] 그 여자가 말하였다. “선생님, 그 물을 나에게 주셔서, 내가 목마르지도 않고, 또 물을 길으러 여기까지 나오지도 않게 해주십시오.”

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

16] 예수께서 그 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “가서, 네 남편을 불러 오너라.”

He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17] 그 여자가 대답하였다. “나에게는 남편이 없습니다.” 예수께서 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “남편이 없다고 한 말이 옳다.

“I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.

18] 너에게는, 남편이 다섯이나 있었고, 지금 같이 살고 있는 남자도 네 남편이 아니니, 바로 말하였다.”

The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

19] 여자가 말하였다. “선생님, 내가 보니, 선생님은 예언자이십니다.”

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.”
