‘성령 충만’이란 무엇일까요? (2025.01.05)

그러나 그러한 체험은 종종 순간에 그치고 맙니다. 깊은 영적 체험을 한 사람들도 여전히 신앙의 기복을 겪으며, 때로는 죄에 빠져 절망하기도 합니다. 성령 충만과 기름부으심이 신앙의 활력소가 되는 것은 분명하지만, 그 자체가 사람을 완전히 변화시키지는 않습니다. 이수관 목사님께서 성령 체험 집회를 인도하던 중 있었던 일입니다. 한 성도의 어깨에 손을 얹는 순간, 그는 갑자기 뒤로 넘어졌습니다. 설명할 수 없는 하나님의 은혜에 압도되어 30분간 눈물을 쏟았습니다. 고질병이던 어깨 통증도 치유되었습니다. 하지만 불과 1년도 채 되지 않아 그는 시험에 들고 교회를 떠났습니다. 놀라운 체험조차 사람을 근본적으로 바꾸지는 못한 것입니다. 성령님의 강력한 역사는 순간적으로 나타나지만, 시간이 지나며 희미해질 수 있습니다. 얼마 전 세계적인 주목을 받았던 에즈베리 대학교의 부흥도 그러했습니다. 체험은 값진 것이지만, 그 이후 성령님이 우리에게 기대하시는 것은 따로 있습니다.

성령 충만은 우리를 강제로 변화시키는 외부적인 힘이 아닙니다. 오히려 체험 이후 하나님과 더 가까이 머물고자 하는 노력이 중요합니다. 성령 충만은 제자가 되려는 헌신을 생활화하는 여정에 함께하시는 은혜의 손길입니다. 어느 날 갑자기 우리를 완전히 바꾸는 기적이라기보다는, 세상의 갈등과 도전 속에서도 헌신을 선택할 수 있는 능력, 말씀대로 살아보겠다는 용기가 진정한 성령 충만이라 생각합니다.

‘What Does It Mean to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit?‘

Spurgeon, that experiencing the anointing of the Holy Spirit will empower their preaching and ministry. It is natural to desire such power, especially when well-prepared sermons go beyond words and lead congregations to be overwhelmed by God’s presence and fully obey His Word.

However, such experiences often remain temporary. Even those who have had profound spiritual encounters continue to experience ups and downs in their faith. At times, they may even fall into sin and despair. While being filled with the Holy Spirit and receiving His anointing can energize our faith, these experiences alone do not bring about complete transformation. Pastor Soo Kwan Lee shares an incident during a Holy Spirit gathering. He laid hands on someone’s shoulder to pray, and the person suddenly fell backward. Overcome by an inexplicable sense of God’s grace, the person wept for 30 minutes. They even testified that their chronic shoulder pain was healed. Yet, within a year, this person faced struggles, fell into doubt, and eventually left the church. This story illustrates that even extraordinary experiences cannot fundamentally change a person. The powerful work of the Holy Spirit often appears intensely but fades over time. The recent revival at Asbury University received global attention, but it also demonstrated the temporary nature of such events. While experiences with the Holy Spirit are valuable, what follows these moments is even more important.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not an external force that compels us to change. Instead, it requires ongoing effort to stay close to God. The Holy Spirit works alongside us as we commit to living as disciples. Rather than expecting sudden, miraculous transformation, true filling of the Holy Spirit empowers us to choose devotion even amidst life’s challenges and conflicts. It gives us the courage to live according to God’s Word. That is what it truly means to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
