자녀들과 VIPs를 위해 함께 길을 만들어 갑시다.(2024.09.15)

저는 보통 칼럼을 오래되면 몇 년 전, 짧아도 몇 주 전 고민하고 썼던 글들 중에서 고치고 수정하여 소개하는 경우가 많습니다. 급하게 생각나는 것을 바로 소개하면 인간적인 실수도 있고 다시 보면 별로 중요하지 않은데 급하게 소개했다고 생각하는 경우도 있기 때문입니다. 그런데 지금 칼럼은 금요일 오전을 몇 시간 앞두고 쓰고 있습니다. 하루 전에 쓴다고 갑자기 든 생각을 나누는 것은 아닙니다만, 평소 고민했던 것들을 정리하는 차원에서 씁니다. 예닮교회가 더욱 말씀 안에서 예수님을 닮아가도록 미래를 준비하는 차원에서 그동안 제가 고민하며 기도하는 부분 두 가지를 나눕니다.

우선 예배에서 주일학교와 청소년이 보고 배우고 참여하고 성장할 수 있도록 의미 있는 좋은 순서를 고민합니다. 목장의 ‘올리브 블레싱’ 같은 순서를 예배에서도 도입하면 어떨까 생각합니다. 자녀들이 일주일간 감사 제목과 기도 제목을 준비해보고 예배 시간에 앞에 나와 이야기 하는 것입니다. 또한 자녀들이 예배를 수동적으로 구경만 하는 것이 아니라 적극적으로 참여하도록 하면 좋겠다 싶습니다. 예를 들어 가족찬양을 준비해서 발표해도 되고, 악기를 다룰 줄 안다면 찬양팀에서 섬겨도 좋을 것 같습니다. 한국어가 익숙하지 않지만 배우려고 한다면 싱어로 섬기는 것도 괜찮겠습니다. 그 외에도 함께 기도하며 생각나는 좋은 아이디어가 있으면 말씀해주세요. 기도하며 검토하면서 하나씩 도입해보면 좋겠습니다.

다음으로 영어권 VIPs의 구원을 위한 고민입니다. 영어를 모국어로 쓰는 VIPs가 목장과 교회로 연결되어 예수님을 믿고 세례 받고 구원받아 제자가 되도록 효과적으로 돕는 방법을 고민합니다. 구심적 역할을 할 ESC 담당 목사를 지금까지 찾고 있었지만 쉽지 않았습니다. 현재는 줌을 통해 설교를 영어로 동시통역하는 정도로 배려하지만, 영어권 VIPs를 돕는 방법들을 고민합니다. 성도님들도 더 좋은 방법을 생각해보시면 좋겠습니다.

자녀들과 VIPs를 위한 다양한 고민들 외에도 영적으로 밝았으면 합니다. 없는 것에 불평하기 보다는 있는 것에 감사하며 무엇을 더 준비할 수 있을까 고민합시다. 자녀들이 부모의 신앙을 보고 배우고 VIPs들이 목장과 교회로 연결되도록 ‘핑계’가 아니라 ‘열정’을 품읍시다. 핑계로는 열매를 맺지 못합니다. 열정이 열매를 맺게 합니다. 하나님께서 우리 마음의 중심을 보시고 그 해결 방법을 알려 주시도록 다음 세대와 VIPs를 위해 열정을 품읍시다.

Let’s build a path together for our children and VIPs.

I often choose pastoral columns by revising and editing articles that I have written, sometimes from years ago, or even a few weeks ago. This is because, when I introduce something hastily, it may contain human errors upon reflection and I may realize that it wasn’t all that important. However, I am writing this ca few hours before Friday morning. Although I am not sharing a sudden thought that came to mind the day before, I am writing it as a way to organize some thoughts that I have been reflecting on. I would like to share two aspects I have been contemplating and praying about as we prepare for the future, so that Yedalm Church can grow to resemble Jesus more in the Word.

First, I am considering meaningful and positive segments within worship services that allow children and youth to observe, learn, participate, and grow. For instance, I am thinking about doing something like “Olive Blessing,” which we have in the mokjang, into the worship service. Children can prepare and share their thanksgiving and prayer topics from the past week during the worship service. I also hope that the children will not just passively observe worship but actively participate in it. For example, they could prepare a family praise performance, or if they know how to play an instrument, they could serve on the praise team. Even if they are not fluent in Korean but are willing to learn, they could serve as singers. Please feel free to share any good ideas that come to mind as you pray, and we will consider them and introduce them one by one through prayer and review.

Secondly, I am considering how to effectively help English-speaking VIPs connect to our church and mokjang, believe in Jesus, receive baptism, be saved, and become disciples. We have been searching for a pastor to lead the ESC (English-Speaking Congregation), who would play a central role, but this has not been easy. Currently, we offer simultaneous interpretation of the sermons in English via Zoom, but I am thinking more ways to support English-speaking VIPs. It would be great if you could also think of better ways.

In addition to the various ideas for our children and VIPs, I hope that we remain spiritually bright. Instead of complaining about what we lack, let’s be grateful for what we have and consider what more we can prepare. Let our children see and learn from the faith of the parents, and let VIPs be connected to our mokjangs and church with passion, not excuses. Excuses do not bear fruit; passion does. Let us have passion for the next generation and VIPs, trusting that God, who sees the sincerity of our hearts and shows us the way.
