열매 맺는 인생 (2024.08.18)

나무는 화려한 이파리가 아니라 열매로 이름이 결정됩니다. 사과를 맺기에 사과나무고 감을 맺기에 감나무입니다. 예수님께서도 그 열매로 그 나무를 안다고 하셨습니다.(마7:20) 인생도 마찬가지입니다. 눈에 보이는 외적인 것들은 얼마든지 가식적이고 거짓될 수 있습니다. 그 사람이 가진 직업이나 직장이나 개인적인 경험들조차도 이파리에 불과합니다. 그런 면에서 성령님의 은사 역시도 성령님의 열매에 비하면 덜 중요합니다. 성령님의 열매는 가을 녘에 맺힙니다. 한 여름의 뜨거운 태양 볕을 이겨낸 후 인생의 화려함이 끝나는 추운 겨울 사이입니다. 젊어서는 다른 것에 관심이 쏠리다 보니 열매에 집중하기가 쉽지 않습니다. 삶에 열매보다 이파리의 무성함과 색깔에만 만족하게 됩니다. 하지만 나뭇잎이 다 떨어질 때 본질은 드러납니다. 열매를 맺은 나무는 앙상한 가지가 드러나도 부끄럽지 않습니다.

인생의 열매는 어떻게 맺힐까요? 성도의 열매는 전도와 내적 성품 입니다. 나를 통해 예수님을 믿게 된 VIPs와 성령님의 아홉 가지 열매입니다. 인생도 고난의 뜨거움을 이겨낸 후에야 비로소 열매를 맺습니다. 전도이든 성품이든 한 여름의 뜨거움을 이겨내야 합니다. 고난이라는 에너지를 아름답게 승화시켜 저장한 것이 열매이기 때문입니다. 마치 조개가 아픔을 감싸서 진주를 만드는 것과 같습니다. 힘들수록 하나님을 가까이 하고 무릎 끓고 기도하고 말씀을 붙잡고 사는 것입니다. 고난을 넘어 은혜의 보좌 앞에 더 나아갑니다. 목장과 교회에서 혜택에 익숙하기 보다는 섬기기 위해 편리함을 포기하고 고난을 몸에 채워갈 때 영적 열매가 맺힙니다.

삶이 퍽퍽하면 눈에 보이는 것들을 쫓기 쉽습니다. 쉬운 방법이나 기적을 쫓습니다. 내적으로 약해지면 바람에 흔들리는 잎사귀들이 풍성해 보입니다. 시들고 사라질 것들이 목표가 되고 가벼운 인생이 됩니다. 의의 나무로 이 땅에 심겨진 성도는 빛나는 열매로 하나님께 영광을 돌립니다. 전도와 성령의 열매를 맺은 가지는 결코 불쏘시개로 던져지지 않습니다. 생명수와 생명나무 과실을 먹고 영원히 거합니다.

A Fruitful Life

A tree’s identity is determined not by its showy leaves but by its fruit. It is called an apple tree because it bears apples, and a persimmon tree because it bears persimmons. Jesus also said that a tree is known by its fruit (Matthew 7:20). The same principle applies to life. Outward appearances can often be deceptive and false. A person’s job, position, or personal experiences are just like leaves. In this sense, even the gifts of the Holy Spirit are less important compared to the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit ripens in the fall, after enduring the scorching sun of summer and before the cold winter when the brilliance of life fades. When we are young, it is easy to focus on other things, making it difficult to concentrate on bearing fruit. We become satisfied with the abundance and colorful leaves rather than the fruit. However, when the leaves fall, the true nature is revealed. A tree that has borne fruit is not ashamed even when its bare branches are exposed.

How does one bear the fruit of life? The fruit of a believer consists of new believers and inner character. These are the VIPs who come to believe in Jesus through us and the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit. A life bears fruit only after enduring the heat of suffering. Whether new believers or inner character, one must endure the heat of summer. This is because fruit is the beautiful transformation and storage of the energy of suffering. It is like an oyster enveloping pain to produce a pearl. The more difficult life becomes, the closer we should draw to God, kneel in prayer, and hold fast to His Word. We overcome suffering and draw nearer to the throne of grace. Instead of getting used to the benefits in church and Mokjang, when we forsake convenience to serve and fill ourselves with suffering, spiritual fruit is produced.

When life is tough, it’s easy to chase after visible things. We seek out easy solutions or miracles. When we are weak inside, the fluttering leaves in the wind appear abundant. Earthly things that wither and fade become our goals, and our lives become shallow and insubstantial. Planted on this earth as trees of righteousness, we glorify God with the fruit of life. Branches that bear the fruit of new believers and the Holy Spirit are never thrown into the fire as kindling. They drink the water of life and eat the fruit of the tree of life, and dwell forever.
