2020.12.13 – 왕상2:13-25/야망의 흙탕물 속에서 하나님의 뜻

13] 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바를 찾아왔다. 밧세바가 “좋은 일로 왔느냐?” 하고 물으니, 그는 “좋은 일로 왔습니다” 하고 대답하였다.

Now Adonijah, the son of Haggith, went to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother. Bathsheba asked him, “Do you come peacefully?” He answered, “Yes, peacefully.”

14] 그러면서 그가 말하였다. “드릴 말씀이 있습니다.” 밧세바가 대답하였다. “말하여라.”

Then he added, “I have something to say to you.” “You may say it,” she replied.

15] 그러자 그가 말하였다. “어머니께서도 아시다시피, 임금 자리는 저의 것이었고, 모든 이스라엘 사람은, 제가 임금이 되기를 바라고 있었습니다. 그런데 그 임금 자리는, 주님의 뜻이 있어서, 이제는 아우의 것이 되었습니다.

“As you know,” he said, “the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the LORD.

16] 이제 어머니께 한 가지 청할 것이 있습니다. 거절하지 말아 주시기 바랍니다.” 밧세바가 그에게, 말하라고 하였다.

Now I have one request to make of you. Do not refuse me.” “You may make it,” she said.

17] 아도니야가 말하였다. “임금이 어머니의 청을 거절하지는 않을 것입니다. 그러니 솔로몬 임금에게 말씀하셔서, 수넴 여자 아비삭을 나의 아내로 삼게 해주십시오.”

So he continued, “Please ask King Solomon–he will not refuse you–to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife.”

18] 밧세바가 말하였다. “좋다. 내가 너를 대신하여, 임금께 말하여 주마.”

“Very well,” Bathsheba replied, “I will speak to the king for you.“

19] 그리하여 밧세바는 아도니야의 청을 대신 말하여 주려고, 솔로몬 왕을 찾아갔다. 왕은 어머니를 맞이하려고, 일어나서 절을 한 뒤에 다시 자리에 앉았다. 그리고는 어머니에게 자리를 권하여, 자기 옆에 앉게 하였다.

When Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, the king stood up to meet her, bowed down to her and sat down on his throne. He had a throne brought for the king’s mother, and she sat down at his right hand.

20] 그러자 밧세바가 말하였다. “나에게 한 가지 작은 소원이 있는데, 거절하지 않으면 좋겠소.” 왕이 대답하였다. “어머니, 말씀하여 보십시오. 거절하지 않겠습니다.”

“I have one small request to make of you,” she said. “Do not refuse me.” The king replied, “Make it, my mother; I will not refuse you.”

21] 밧세바가 말하였다. “수넴 여자 아비삭과 임금의 형 아도니야를 결혼시키면 좋겠소.”

So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.”

22] 그러자 솔로몬 왕이 어머니에게 대답하였다. “아도니야를 생각하신다면, 어찌하여 수넴 여자 아비삭과 결혼시키라고만 하십니까? 그는 나의 형이니, 차라리 그에게 임금의 자리까지 내주라고 하시지 그러십니까? 또 아도니야만을 생각하여서 청하실 것이 아니라, 그를 편든 아비아달 제사장과 스루야의 아들 요압을 생각하여서도 그렇게 하시지 그러십니까?”

King Solomon answered his mother, “Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him–after all, he is my older brother–yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!”

23] 솔로몬 왕은 주님을 가리켜 맹세하였다. “아도니야가 자기 목숨을 걸고 이런 말을 하였으니, 그의 목숨을 살려 두면, 하나님이 나에게 벌을 내리시고, 또 내리실지도 모릅니다.

Then King Solomon swore by the LORD : “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if Adonijah does not pay with his life for this request!

24] 이제 주님께서 나를 세워 아버지 다윗의 자리에 앉게 하시고, 말씀하신 대로 나를 시켜서 왕실을 세워 주셨으니, 주님의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세합니다. 오늘 아도니야는 반드시 처형당할 것입니다.”

And now, as surely as the LORD lives–he who has established me securely on the throne of my father David and has founded a dynasty for me as he promised–Adonijah shall be put to death today!”

25] 솔로몬 왕이 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내니, 그가 아도니야를 쳐죽였다.

So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.
