There is something we must guard against and be careful of in the church. It is failing to be one. When the church is not united, the spiritual atmosphere of the church is broken. As a result, the church is hindered or damaged in carrying out its mission. It causes the church to lose what makes it the church. Therefore, we must always examine ourselves and be careful to see whether there is anything preventing us from being one.

We should examine whether there are any relationships in which there is a sense of distance or discomfort. We should consider whether there are any words or actions that fail to accept someone’s weaknesses or shortcomings and instead disregard them. We should examine whether we treat people differently according to outward conditions or abilities.

There can be many factors that prevent the church from being united. They may arise from differences in opinions about the church or in methods of ministry. Sometimes they come from misunderstandings or hurt feelings. They may also come from selfish hearts and immature attitudes.

Whether for an individual or a church, broken relationships and a lack of unity may appear to have many outward reasons, but in reality they are the result of the attacks of evil. Therefore, when relationships are broken and unity is lost, we must recognize that it is an attack of evil. Rather than confronting people or trying to solve the problem by human methods, we should seek a spiritual solution through prayer.

No matter how good our intentions may be in what we say or do, if the result is broken relationships or a lack of unity in the church, we should not do it. Even if our motives and intentions are good, if they result in division and harm to the church, then in the end we have been used or deceived by the attacks of evil. What God does always brings unity. He brings unity between God and people, between one person and another, and within families and the church.

When signs of disunity appear in the church, the church must not hide the problem but should take it seriously and deal with it. Whether it is a sense of distance or disappointment toward the pastor, or conflicts among church members, even if such things do not appear to be major problems, they should not be overlooked but restored and corrected. Otherwise, they will develop into greater problems. The problem of disunity does not resolve itself. If left alone, it will gradually bring worse results. As a result, the spiritual atmosphere of the church deteriorates, and eventually the church suffers damage.

When the church is not united, the work of the Holy Spirit does not take place within the church. When the church is not united, strangely, VIPs stop coming, and evangelism does not take place. Zeal for the Word and prayer also grows cold. When the church is not united, we see that spiritual grace is hindered. Because disunity is fundamentally a spiritual problem, it must be approached spiritually.

When the unity of the church is broken, the way to restore it is through repentance and love. We should not try to determine whose fault it is or who is responsible for the lack of unity. Instead, beginning with the pastor, the entire church should examine themselves, confess that they have lacked prayer, love, and concern, and repent. If there have been shortcomings, mistakes, or wrongs, they should honestly ask for forgiveness, whether privately or publicly.

We should make every effort to restore relationships of love through intentional meetings and conversations with those whose relationships have weakened. We should strive to accept one another’s shortcomings and weaknesses and to have hearts that seek to understand and care for one another. In order to become one, we need to examine our relationships. If there are broken or blocked relationships, we should make efforts to restore them while praying. When there is sincere repentance and active effort in love, unity is achieved. When the church becomes one, the Holy Spirit works, and the church is able to carry out its mission with power.
