찾아 가는 심방(2025.11.09)

형제자매님들의 댁으로 찾아 가는 심방을 시작했습니다. 심방에 대해서 한번 더 칼럼을 씁니다.

심방을 가면 저는 가장 먼저 앉아서 가정에 예수님이 주시는 평화가 있기를 축복하는 기도를 ‘개인적’으로 드릴 것입니다. 그 이유는 누가복음 10장 5절에서 예수님이 전도대를 파송하실 때, 어느 집에 들어가든지 먼저 “이 집에 평화가 있기를 바랍니다!”하고 말하라고 명령하셨기 때문입니다. 

이어서 6절에서는 그 집에 평화를 바라는 사람이 있으면 그 평화가 그 사람에게 내리고, 그렇지 않으면 평화가 전도자에게로 되돌아올 것이라고 하셨습니다. 이 말씀을 통해 알 수 있는 것은 한 가정을 방문할 때 평화를 비는 것이 단순한 요식행위나 인사치례가 아니라 실제로 평화가 임한다는 것입니다. 그래서 이번 심방 때는 표시나게 눈 감고 기도하려고 합니다. 6절이 가르쳐 주는 또 다른 사실은 예수님의 제자들은 평화의 전달자가 될 수 있다는 것입니다. 그래서 형제자매님들께서도 다른 집에 가셨을 때 그 집에 평화가 있기를 축복해주시기 바랍니다.

평화를 비는 기도 후에는 잠시 대화를 나누면 좋겠습니다. 감사했던 일이나, 기도제목, 신앙생활에 대해서 등 서로 근황을 나누며 교제하는 시간을 가집니다. 

이후에는 예배를 드립니다. 예배를 위해서 가정에서 원하시는 찬양 2곡을 미리 선택해주세요. 영상으로 하는 어린이 찬양도 괜찮습니다. 그리고 찬양을 선택한 이유도 나눠주시면 좋습니다.

그 다음에는 설교를 합니다. 저는 이번에 말씀사역자로서 심방을 하는 것이기 때문에 설교를 꼭 하려고 합니다. 어느 신학교 교수님은 ‘심방’을 ‘말씀의 방문’으로 정의했습니다. 그래서 저도 가정에 꼭 필요한 말씀이 될 수 있도록 기도하며 준비하려고 합니다. 때문에 한주에 몰아서 심방 스케줄을 잡지는 않습니다.

설교 후에는 말씀과 가정의 기도제목을 놓고 함께 기도하는 시간을 가집니다. 만나서 이야기를 하는 것도 즐거운 일이지만, 그 대화의 주인이 예수님이 되시면 더 기쁨이 있습니다. 예수님이 주인 된 대화로도 좋은 교제가 되겠지만, 함께 기도한다면 보다 깊은 영적인 교제가 될 것입니다.

Visiting Homes for Pastoral Visits (2025.11.09)

We have begun pastoral visits to the homes of brothers and sisters. I am writing another column about pastoral visitation.

When I visit, the very first thing I will do is to sit down and offer a personal prayer, blessing the home with the peace that Jesus gives. The reason is that in Luke 10:5, when Jesus sent out the evangelistic teams, He commanded them, “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’”

Then in verse 6, He said that if there is someone in that house who desires peace, that peace will rest upon that person; if not, it will return to the messenger. Through this verse we can see that when visiting a home, praying for peace is not a mere formality or polite greeting, but that real peace actually comes. Therefore, during this visitation, I intend to pray with eyes closed in a visible and deliberate way. Another truth that verse 6 teaches us is that the disciples of Jesus can become bearers of peace. Therefore, I ask that you, too, when you visit another home, bless that house with the peace of the Lord.

After the prayer for peace, it would be good to have a short conversation. We will take time for fellowship, sharing things we are thankful for, prayer requests, and updates about our faith life.

After that, we will have a worship service. For the worship, please select two praise songs in advance that your family would like to sing. Children’s praise videos are also fine. And it would be nice if you could also share the reason you chose those songs.

Next comes the sermon. Since I am doing these visits as a minister of the Word, I intend to preach. One seminary professor defined “pastoral visitation” as “a visit of the Word.” Therefore, I also want to prepare prayerfully so that the message may be a word that is truly needed for the family. For that reason, I do not schedule all the visits for one week in a rush.

After the sermon, we will take time to pray together for the Word and for the family’s prayer topics. It is a joy to meet and have conversations, but there is greater joy when Jesus becomes the Lord of that conversation. While having a Jesus-centered conversation is good fellowship in itself, praying together will lead to even deeper spiritual fellowship.
