달란트 잔치(2025.11.02)

마라나타 교회 예배에 출석하는 자녀들을 세어보니, 9명이나 됩니다. 예배하는 전체 회중의 3분의 1이나 되지요. 우리 공동체가 결코 무시할 수 없는 아주 유력한(?) 집단입니다^^ 어린이 설교 시간에 집중하고, 퀴즈를 맞추며 참여하는 아이들에게 간식과 장난감을 주었지만, 주는 방식에 대해 고민이 있었습니다. 물품관리나 상품을 선택하는 방식, 무엇을 준비해줄지 등. 그래서 달란트 잔치를 열어보자는 의견이 있어서, 보드미팅에서 의논한 후에 오는 11월 2일(주)부터 시작합니다.

이번에는 맛뵈기로 하고, 11월 한달 동안 아이들이 열심히 참여한 뒤에, 12월 초에 또다시 열릴 것입니다. 어린 자녀들이 많아서 몇달 후에 열면 동기부여가 되지 않을 것 같아 매달 진행해보기로 했습니다. 그리고 예배 후에 열면 식사시간도 있고, 오후에 목장이나, 여타 행사가 생기면 시간이 겹칠 수 있기 때문에, 예배 전인 주일 오전 10시부터 달란트 잔치가 시작됩니다. 부모님들께서는 자녀들과 일찍 나와주세요.

몇달 전 설교 예화 중에 펜타닐에 빠졌다가 하나님의 신비한 은혜로 치료 받은 한 래퍼의 간증을 들려드렸습니다. 그 자매가 마약 중독으로 죽음의 위기가 찾아왔을 때, 한 교회의 수요예배에 나갔습니다. 예배끝나고 기도하는데, 목사님이 와서 이렇게 말했답니다. “너 원래 하나님의 딸이야. 알지?” 하면서 머리를 붙잡고 기도해주셨습니다. ‘원래 하나님의 딸’이라고 한 말이 무슨 뜻일까요. 그 자매는 어렸을 때 가족과 함께 교회를 다녔습니다. 그때 하나님을 만났었나 봅니다. 하지만 언제부터인가 교회를 나가지 않았고, 커서는 마약에 빠졌지만 하나님께서 그 자매를 죽음의 위기에서 다시 불러 극적으로 살려주셨던 것입니다.

그렇게 어렸을 때 교회를 다녔던 분들이 다시 예수님께로 돌아오게 된 이야기들을 종종 듣습니다. 그때 만났던 전도사님, 선생님들의 따뜻한 품과 섬김을 기억하는 이야기도 듣습니다. 그래서 ‘어렸을 적 신앙교육이 헛되지 않구나.’ 하는 생각이 듭니다.

달란트 잔치는 아이들이 어떻게 예배와 설교시간에 집중하게 할까 하는 의도에서 시작이 되었습니다. 하지만, 위와 같은 관점으로 볼 때 아이들이 교회 공동체의 섬김을 받는 귀중한 시간입니다. 교회 삼촌 이모들의 따뜻한 말과 섬김을 통해서 하나님의 품이 이러하구나 하는 것을 경험하는 시간입니다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 손과 발이 되어 아이들의 마음에 복음의 씨앗을 심는 복된 시간이 되길 기도합니다.

Talent Festival (2025.11.02)

When we counted the children who attend worship at Maranatha Church, there were as many as nine. That is about one-third of the entire congregation. They are a very influential group that our community can never ignore. ^^

We have been giving snacks and toys to the children who focus during the children’s sermon time and participate by answering the quiz questions, but we had some concerns about the way we were giving them—how to manage the items, how to select the prizes, and what to prepare.

So, there was a suggestion to hold a Talent Festival, and after discussing it at the board meeting, we decided to start it from Sunday, November 2.

This time will be a kind of preview, and after the children participate diligently throughout November, it will be held again in early December.

Since we have many young children, we thought that if we held it only a few months later, it would not motivate them enough, so we decided to try doing it every month.

And if we hold it after worship, there is lunchtime, and if we have cell groups or other events in the afternoon, the time may overlap. Therefore, the Talent Festival will start before worship, at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

Parents, please come early with your children.

A few months ago, in one of the sermon illustrations, I shared the testimony of a rapper who had fallen into fentanyl addiction but was healed by the mysterious grace of God.

When that sister faced the crisis of death because of drug addiction, she went to a church’s Wednesday service.

After the service, during prayer time, the pastor came to her and said, “You are originally God’s daughter. You know that?” and then held her head and prayed for her.

What does it mean when he said, “You are originally God’s daughter”? That sister had attended church with her family when she was little. Perhaps she met God at that time.

But at some point, she stopped going to church, and as she grew up, she fell into drugs, but God called her back from the crisis of death and dramatically saved her life.

I often hear stories about people who went to church when they were young and later returned to Jesus.

I also hear stories about how they remember the warm hearts and service of the pastors and teachers they met at that time.

So I think, “Faith education in childhood is never in vain.”

The Talent Festival started with the intention of helping children focus better during worship and sermon time.

However, from the above perspective, it is a precious time for children to receive the service of the church community.

It is a time for them to experience what the embrace of God is like through the warm words and service of the church’s uncles and aunts.

Therefore, we pray that we will become the hands and feet of God and that this will be a blessed time to plant the seed of the gospel in the hearts of the children.
