서로 알아봐줍시다(2025.08.31)

9월부터 첫째딸 이안이가 킨더가든에 갑니다. 집에서 가장 가까운 학교에 가고 싶었지만, 자리가 없어서 차로 이동하면 6분이 걸리는 학교에 등록을 했습니다. 그곳은 한국인 교장 선생님에, 좋은 학교라고 주변에 소문이 난 학교라서 감사했습니다.

하지만, 아시다시피 가장 좋은 학교는 집에서 가까운 학교지요^^; 바로 앞에 엎어지면 코닿을 거리에, 이안이랑 손잡고 걸어갈 수 있는 곳에 다른 학교가 있는데, 차를 타고 6분을 가야 하다니! 한국에서도 그 정도 차를 타고 가야 하는 어린이집에 보냈지만 바로 눈 앞에 학교가 있으니 아쉬웠습니다.

그런데 지난 화요일에 집 앞에 있는 가까운 학교에서 연락이 왔습니다. 빈자리가 생겨서 이안이가 등록할 수 있다는 소식이었습니다. 당장은 고민이 되었지요. 차로 6분 거리에 있는 그 학교가 좋은 학교라던데, 교장선생님도 한국인인데…

아내와 학교를 옮겼을 경우의 이런저런 장단점을 따져보며 이야기 하던 중, 이안이가 기도했다는 사실이 떠올랐습니다. 이곳에 이사 오고 나서 이안이는 집 앞에 있는 학교에 갈 수 있게 해달라고 밤마다 기도했습니다. 그런데 자리가 없다는 걸 알고는 이안이에게 이렇게 된 것도 하나님의 좋으신 뜻이 있을 거라고 이야기 해주었습니다.

그런데 개학하기 1주일 전에 자리가 생겼습니다. 이런 일이 있을 거라고 상상도 못했지요. 하나님께서 이안이의 기도에 응답해주신 게 아닐까요? 아내와 기도해보고 나서 집 앞의 학교로 옮기기로 결정했습니다. 

그리고 이안이에게 이렇게 이야기 해주었습니다. “이안아, 네가 기도했던 것에 대해 하나님이 응답해주셨어. 그것도 개학 1주일 전에 응답해주시다니. 하나님은 이안이의 기도를 잘 들어주시는 것 같아~!”

가끔 기도를 하고 나서도 잘 잊어버립니다. 하나님께서 우리 기도에 이미 응답해주셨는데, 그런 기도제목으로 기도했다는 것을 기억하지 못해서 지나치는 경우가 있습니다. 그러니 목장에서 서로 기도응답을 챙겨봐주세요. 하나님께서 은혜로 주신 것을 서로 알아봐주세요. 그래서 기도응답인줄, 하나님의 은혜와 축복인 줄 모르고 지나치는 것이 없도록, 그래서 감사하지 못하고 지나가는 손해를 보지 않도록 서로 알아봐줍시다.

Let’s Recognize Each Other (2025.08.31)

Starting in September, my first daughter, Ian, will go to kindergarten. We wanted her to attend the school closest to our home, but since there were no spots available, we registered her at a school that takes 6 minutes by car. Thankfully, that school has a Korean principal and is well-known in the area as a good school.

But as you know, the best school is the one closest to home^^; Right in front of our house, within walking distance, there is another school where I could hold Ian’s hand and walk together. Yet instead, she had to ride in the car for 6 minutes! Back in Korea, she also had to commute by car to daycare, but since a school was right in front of us, I felt a little disappointed.

Then, last Tuesday, we received a call from the nearby school in front of our house. They told us a spot had opened up and Ian could be registered there. At first, we hesitated—after all, the school 6 minutes away was said to be very good, and the principal there is Korean too…

While my wife and I were weighing the pros and cons of transferring, I remembered something: Ian had been praying. Since we moved here, Ian prayed every night asking God to let her attend the school in front of our house. When we found out there were no openings, we told her, “Even this must be part of God’s good plan.”

But then, just one week before school started, a spot opened up. We never imagined this could happen. Could it be that God answered Ian’s prayer? After praying together as a family, we decided to transfer her to the school in front of our house.

We told Ian:

“Ian, God answered your prayer. And He did it just one week before school started! It seems God really listens carefully to your prayers~!”

Sometimes, even after praying, we forget what we prayed for. God may have already answered, but because we don’t remember, we pass by without noticing. That’s why in our Mokjang, let’s recognize each other’s answered prayers. Let’s see the grace God has given us so that we don’t miss His blessings, fail to recognize His answers, or lose the chance to give thanks.
