마지막 칼럼을 쓰며 (2025.04.06)

이 글이 예닮교회에서 제가 쓰는 마지막 칼럼이 될 것 같습니다. 그동안 MCC와 GFC 청빙 과정을 함께 기도하며 하나님의 뜻을 구해 주신 모든 성도님들께 깊이 감사드립니다. 많은 이야기를 뒤로하고 세 가지만 전하려 합니다.

첫째, 우리 교회의 이름이 ‘밴쿠버예닮’에서 ‘마라나타’로 변경됩니다. 한인들에게는 ‘예닮’이라는 이름이 익숙하지만, 영어권과 다음 세대에게는 ‘마라나타’가 더 자연스럽게 다가오는 듯합니다. 지난 9년 동안 우리는 ‘밴쿠버예닮교회’와 ‘마라나타’라는 두 개의 체리티를 함께 운영해 왔습니다. 그런데 최근 이근택 목사님과 대화하는 중, BC주 외곽에서 주일 예배를 드리기 어려운 분들을 위한 주중 예배 공동체에 대한 비전을 품고 계심을 알게 되었습니다. 그래서 ‘밴쿠버예닮교회’ 체리티를 목사님께 맡기는 것이 좋겠다는 생각이 들었고, 목사님께서도 이를 흔쾌히 허락해 주셨습니다. 이에 따라 우리 교회는 이번 주부터 ‘마라나타’라는 이름을 공식적으로 사용하게 됩니다.

둘째, 교회 예배 장소가 이전됩니다. 이정훈 목자님께서 교회 공간에 대한 애정으로 지금까지 커피몬스터 매각을 미루어 오셨지만, 이제 새로운 길을 위해 결단하셨습니다. 이에 따라 예배 장소는 북창동으로 이동합니다. 이곳은 대중교통 접근성이 좋아 성도님들께도 더 편리할 것입니다. 앞으로 예배 시작 15분 전에는 미리 오셔서 기도와 말씀 묵상으로 예배를 준비하고, 예배 후에는 정리와 섬김에도 자발적으로 동참해 주시면 감사하겠습니다.

셋째, 새롭게 담임목사로 섬기실 김준기 목사님을 사랑으로 섬겨 주십시오. 목사님께서 성도님들을 더욱 사랑하고 잘 돌보실 수 있도록 목장과 개인 기도제목을 자주 나누어 주세요. 설교 말씀을 들을 때는 ‘아멘’으로 함께 화답하며 서로 격려해 주시고, 자녀들이 교회를 사랑하고 말씀에 집중하며 예수님을 존중하는 법을 배울 수 있도록 도와주세요. 무엇보다도, 세상의 조롱과 핍박 속에서도 하나님을 가장 사랑하는 성도님들이 되어 주시길 간절히 바랍니다. 주님의 다함없는 은혜와 하늘의 신령한 복이 여러분과 함께하기를 기도합니다.

Writing My Final Column

This will likely be my last column at Yedalm Church. I sincerely thank all the church members who have prayed together and sought God’s will during the MCC and GFC calling process. There is much to say, but I will share just three important things.

First, our church name will change from “Vancouver Yedalm” to “Maranatha.” While many Korean members are familiar with the name “Yedalm,” the word “Maranatha” seems easier to pronounce and more natural for English speakers and the next generation. For the past nine years, we have used both the “Vancouver Yedalm Church” and “Maranatha” charities. Recently, in a conversation with Pastor Keuntaek Lee, I learned that he has a vision to build a missional church with weekday worship services for people in rural BC who cannot attend Sunday services. I thought it would be good for him to use the “Vancouver Yedalm Church” charity for this purpose, and he kindly agreed. Because of this, our church will officially use the name “Maranatha” starting this week.

Second, our church will move to a new worship location. Shepherd Junghoon Lee has cared deeply about our current space and delayed selling Coffee Monster for a long time. However, he has now decided to sell it to take a new step forward. As a result, our worship location will move to Bukchang-dong. This new place is more accessible by public transportation, making it more convenient for church members. I encourage everyone to arrive about 15 minutes early for worship, spend time in prayer and meditation on the Word, and join in setting up. After the service, please also take part in cleaning and organizing.

Last, please do your best to support and encourage Pastor Junkee Kim, who will be serving as the new senior pastor. Share your cell group and personal prayer requests with him so that he can love and care for you more through prayer. During his sermons, respond with “Amen” to encourage him and one another. Help your children grow in their love for the church, focus on the Word, and learn to honor Jesus. Above all, I pray that you will remain faithful and love God wholeheartedly, even in the face of criticism or hardship. May God’s abundant grace and heavenly blessings be with you all.
